Sean Chambers accounted for four touchdowns and Montana State rolled to a 63-13 victory over Morehead State on Saturday. Chambers threw an 11-yard TD pass to Willie Patterson and an 8-yarder to Clevan Thomas while Morehead State answered each with turnovers on fumbles about six minutes into the game. Marqui Johnson broke loose on a 23-yard touchdown run and Taco Dowler added a 67-yard punt return for a score and the Bobcats lead 28-0 at the end of the first quarter. Chambers completed 3 of 7 passes for 30 yards. He added scoring runs from 55 and 14 yards in the second half and finished with 127 yards rushing. Tommy Mellott was 16-of-22 passing for 265 yards with a pair of TD passes for fourth-ranked Montana State (2-0). Lane Sumner ran for 168 yards, Tommy Mellott threw a pair of touchdown passes and Montana State rolled past McNeese 40-17 on Saturday night in a season opener. Montana State, ranked fourth in both FCS polls, racked up 438 yards of offense despite committing two turnovers. Mellott was 8-of-16 passing for 152 yards. His 17-yard touchdown pass to Willie Patterson gave the Bobcats the lead for good, 16-10 midway through the second quarter. Mellott's 8-yard touchdown pass to Ravi Alston stretched the lead to 33-10 in the third. Sean Chambers added two short scoring runs for the Bobcats. Josh Matthews caught a pass in the flats from Knox Kadum, broke a tackle and ran 66 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for McNeese. 2022 PRESEASON RAY GUY WATCHLIST: Brendan Hall - SMU,...Hall is hard to miss at 6-8, 232. As a freshman last year he played in all 12 games, had 82 kickoffs for 5,048 yards with 49 touchbacks... Punted 36 times for 1,502 yards with a long of 67, nine inside the 20 and five of 50 or more yards. He was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. At Springtown High School (Texas) Hall had 81 kickoffs for 4,443 yards and 33 punts for 1,432 yards as a senior.

Was 50-51 on PATs and 12-17 on field goals with a long of 49 yards… Helped Springtown to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the 4A Division I Quarterfinals… Was 81-85 on PATs and 10-13 on FGs as a junior…Punted 40 times for 1,707 yards with a long of 52 yards and 16 inside the 20… Added 115 kickoffs for 6,187 yards… Helped Springtown to a 13-2 record and an appearance in the State semifinals. Hall wears a size 14 shoe. He is the tallest punter in college football and we were curious if he played college basketball, but there is no mention of it. Montana State freshman quarterback Tommy Mellott accounted for four touchdowns to send the Bobcats to their first title game in 38 years with a 31-17 win over South Dakota State in a Football Championship Series semifinal game on Saturday. Montana State (12-2) will make its first national championship appearance since 1984, facing North Dakota State in Frisco, Texas on Jan. 8. The Bison beat James Madison 20-14 on Friday night. Mellott was 10-of-15 passing for 233 yards and threw two touchdown passes.

He added 155 yards on the ground and two touchdowns on 34 carries. "He's a great player, runs the ball hard," South Dakota State linebacker Logan Backhaus said. "He makes the right reads and doesn't make mistakes." The Bobcats scored first when Mellott hit Nate Stewart for a 64-yard score, but South Dakota State (11-4) bounced back to take a 14-10 lead when Pierre Strong Jr. rambled 44 yards for a touchdown and Chris Oladokun connected with Jadon Janke from the 13 for the lead. Mellott ran for a 4-yard touchdown before SDSU's Cole Frahm kicked a 51-yard field goal to tie the game at 17 going into halftime. Tommy Mellott accounted for five touchdowns to help Montana State beat No. 1 seed Sam Houston 42-19 on Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs and snapped the Bearkats' 22-game win streak. Eighth-seeded Montana State (11-2), which did not participate in the spring season brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, plays South Dakota State - which upset No. 5 seed Villanova in another quarterfinal game - next weekend. The Bobcats also advanced to the semifinals in 2019 before losing 42-14 to eventual-champion North Dakota State. South Dakota State lost to the Bearkats in last May's championship game.

Mellott and Lance McCutcheon connected on a 30-yard pass and the Bearkats called for face mask and pass interference penalties before wide receiver Willie Patterson took a direct snap, rolled to his right and threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Mellott. Four plays later, after Tre Webb intercepted a pass by Sam Houston's Eric Schmid, Mellott dropped a 31-yard TD pass over the shoulder of tightly-covered Patterson's shoulder to make it 14-0 with 11:43 left in the first quarter. Mellott added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the second and scored on a 2-yard run to give the Bobcats a 28-0 lead with 7:46 left in the first half. - AP College Football
